Mena Group ltd co owner Tatjana Obradovic Tosic delivered a speech as the first speaker at the first TEDxBelgradeWomen. Mena Group ltd facilitated action planning workshops for Guiding Coalition members of the municipality of Boljevac
The final three-day workshop for the development of the Anticorruption Action plan was conducted in the beginning of November (November 3-5th). Prior to this three-day workshop, the Anticorruption Practitioners organized meetings/workshops on October 10th with the Guiding coalition members in order to conduct a deeper analysis of the working processes in the departments that are responsible for the activities that were recognized as potentially vulnerable to corruption. This preparatory workshop had as objective to deepen the understanding of the working processes, and to help guiding coalition members and AP to define more practical actions in the action plan that will have a better impact on the anti-corruption prevention. The findings from the preparatory workshop in October were prepared as objective information for the Action planning session held in the beginning of November.
The Action planning workshop held on November 3-5th had as an objective the finalization of the Action plans for each of the strategic development goals defined in the first phase of the projects with the Municipality of Boljevac. The three-day session was highly productive, and the process that Guiding coalition members went through, with the support and facilitation of the Anti-corruption practitioners, provided very good results.
The beginning of the second phase of the “Mother-child educational programme”, financed by REF
The second phase of “Mother Child educational programme” began on the 1st of November. As in the first phase, the project is financed by the Roma Education Fund from Budapest. During the second phase, programme activities will be implemented in 4 municipalities from the first phase (Krusevac, Kraljevo, Kragujevac and Obrenovac) and one new additional municipality – Novi Sad and the Roma community Veliki Rit.
Mena Group has been contracted to do the overall coordination of the project and facilitate quarterly monitoring meetings with project partners. This will enable both partners and Mena Group to learn and develop goals to support the reduction of educational gap between Roma and non Roma children of preschool age.
Development of community centres in South-East Serbia – facilitation of workshops for drafting work plans for community centres
In the period January 17-29th Mena Group was engaged to facilitate workshops for drafting work plans for community centers. The workshops were conducted within the framework of the programme “Development of community centers in South-East Serbia” implemented by the Open Club, Nis (Otvoreni klub) and with the support of the UNICEF. The objective of the workshops was to assist the existing Development Education Centers in south Serbia to become community centers. The purpose of the workshops was to design work plans of the community centers in 7 municipalities (Bojnik, Lebane, Vladicin Han, Surdulica, Prokuplje, Pirot and Nis). Participants on these workshops were representatives from Development Education Centers, local self-government, youth offices, schools, preschools, Centres for social welfare, Health centers, Red Cross, and the non-governmental sector. Most of the workshops for creating work plans were also attended by the beneficiaries of the Development Education Centers. Mena Group facilitators used participatory processes and interactive presentations, practical examples and group work to lead to group through the steps of defining vision, mission, target groups, priority areas and action plans for the next three years.
After the workshops, the coordinators of the community centers prepared the work plans for the next three years and project proposals for one of the activities that will be financed by UNICEF in 2013. Promotion of European charter for gender equality at a local level
Since May 2012 Mena Group ltd. has been engaged by Fenomena organization from Kraljevo, for providing consulting services on “Promotion of European Charter for gender equality at a local level”. Responsibilities of a Mena Group expert, Tatjana Obradović Tošić, have been the realization of the research on gender equality on the territory of municipality of Mediana, Niš and leading the team for designing LAP for equality at a local level.
Training on setting up toy libraries for REF partners
On 5th and 6th May 2012 on Zlatibor, Mena Group realized a training within”Mother-Child Education Programme” financed by REF. The aim of the training was to exchange experience from previous work on the programme, acquaint the participants with the process of setting up toy libraries in their communities and make two-month plans of activities related to toy libraries. The training was attended by two persons from each organization, Mena Group representatives and the Country Facilitator for Serbia.
Improving knowledge and skills of REF and UNICEF partners
Mena Group ltd gave a three-day training for REF and UNICEF partners in Pirot 17th-19th May. The objective of the training was to respond to the needs for further training expressed by organizations included in the “Mother-Child Education Programme”. Based on the information gathered from previous training event and TNA that was conducted following the first training (held in November 2011), Mena Group ltd prepared a training session with the following objective: “Improve the knowledge and skills regarding planning, project implementation and monitoring project results”.
The overall focus of the training was on exchanging experience from previous work on the project “Mother-Child Education Programme” conducted by seven REF and UNICEF partners that already conduct activities related to PPP programme.
Global Gap project – Certification scheme creation and implementation
Mena Group was specifically in charge of the Certification scheme creation and implementation. During the project, the certification scheme was developed for Global GAP and other private quality standards, but also public standard – Geographical indication products certification scheme.
Support to private sector development in the field of fruits and berries in South Serbia
Within Fruits and Berries programme, Danish programme for development of fruits sector in South Serbia, and in cooperation with BIP (Business Innovation Program), Mena Group experts (Tamara Živadinović, Suzana Živković i Ljubica Petković) underwent a training for trainers for designing start-up business plans and were later engaged as trainers-associates on the programme. „Fruits and Berries“ programme of support to private sector development in the field of fruits and berries in South Serbia is realized in Nisava, Toplica, Jablanica, Pcinja and Pirot districts, so Mena Group trainers, in cooperation with other trainers, held 6 four-day trainings in the following municipalities: Nis, Pirot, Bela Palanka, Prokuplje, Babusnica, Razanj. Between September 2011 and March 2012, about 200 participants (fruit producers, processors and collectors) underwent trainings organized and held by Mena Group and associates. They received basic information about the programme and the development of entrepreneurship, and underwent practical and interactive training for designing business plans that helped them develop their idea for enhancing fruit production and processing, as well as market positioning and sale. The participants are encouraged to apply for the open call on subsidies for seedlings and mechanization that represent the second part of this programme that is going to be implemented during next three years.
Mother-child education programme
Since February 2012 Mena Group ltd. has been providing expert support to Mother-Child Education Programme implemented by Roma partner organizations (NGO Romanipen from Kragujevac, NGO Roma Association Hands of Friendship from Kraljevo, Association Romani Cikna from Krusevac and NGO Roma Association Obrenovac from Obrenovac) with financial and expert help of REF and Unicef. The aim of the programme is to increase the access to Early Childhood Education for Roma children within their families (by empowering mothers and developing their potentials for developing parental skills) and through formal education (lobbying to local government for higher level of inclusion of Roma people, and supporting parents to enroll their children in preparatory preschool education).
The program objective is:
- to develop the capacity of Roma NGOs to run community based education projects including a toy library project and to establish networks between stakeholders;
- to empower Roma mothers of preschool aged children both as mothers and as women through informal education projects to support their children in the process of education and schooling;
- and to draw the attention of the public authorities to the importance of early childhood education and to their responsibilities.
The project consists of several activities: capacity development of implementing Roma NGOs; implementation of creative and educational workshops with mothers, gatherings and informative meetings on enrollment in preschool program, schooling, health, immunization, etc; setting up toy-libraries at selected locations; and networking.
During project implementation, Mena Group ltd. will coordinate project activities, provide mentoring and coaching to organizations, and prepare, realize and facilitate several trainings and coordination meetings with the organizations.
