Building an Agro Advisory Support System in Niš

February 2010

Mena Group expert Tamara Živadinović, at the request of LEDIB, is playing a key role in the development of the first Agro Advisory Support System in Niš. The project aims to include all stakeholders in its creation and implementation and will therefore create two entities – an Advisory Association comprised of agricultural producers in the Nišava district and an Advisory Service Company (AgroZem) made up of advisors and experts directed by the needs of the Advisory Association.

Tamara’s involvement encompasses working with and mediating between all the stakeholders including: farmers, advisors, municipalities, LEDIB, and DAAS. Her work with farmers has included gathering interested farmers, informing them about the project, and holding needs assessment workshops in order to form a grass roots agenda for AgroZem. Tamara also held methodology trainings with advisors from AgroZem, as well as workshops where an Advisory Strategy/Program was developed for the next several years. From these activities, Tamara was able to make recommendations to LEDIB and other stakeholders about how to best support the Agro Advisory Project.

It is expected that by establishing an independent and impartial Advisory Service, comprised of highly qualified advisors and experts on modern agricultural production, technologies and management, and whose mission is created based on the needs and ideas expressed by the agricultural producers themselves, economic development in agriculture in Nisava district will flourish.
